Mental Health

Mental health is still a taboo in our Latinx community, however, it affects us as much or even more than the general population, due to the unique conditions that affected us. Limited English Proficiency and our Migration Patrons, leaving from one to another place due to our family welfare, escaping from persecution, violence, and potential death among others.

There is also limited specialized-professional staff, to understand our situation and culture. Some of our children are labeled as hyperactive or slow by a systemic structural barrier, which should protect them. Therefore, CHWCMR is investing in CHWs, trusted members of the community, to advocate, identify and learn professional techniques to address the mental health challenges we faced in our community around WA.

Peer support thrives on mutual understanding. Sharing lived experiences, whether related to mental health, identity, or discrimination, helps build trust and connection.

Art Therapy

Art therapy plays a crucial role in supporting migrants and refugees by providing a creative outlet for processing trauma, rebuilding identity, and fostering resilience. Many displaced individuals experience loss, uncertainty, and emotional distress, and art therapy offers a safe space for self-expression and healing

Prevention of Opioid Overdose

The rate of deaths in WA, increasing in almost all counties between 2002-2004 and 2020-2022, whether urban or rural, west or east of the Cascades. King, Pierce, and Snohomish, all had opioid death rates increase by over 200%.
