Prevention of Opioid Overdoses Program

In 2024, Washington saw a nearly 11% decrease in fatal overdoses compared to 2023 — from 3,512 to 3,137 deaths. However, this drop still left 2024’s total 14% higher than in 2022, and the final months of 2024 saw a reversal, with overdose deaths rising again. Fentanyl remains the primary driver, responsible for the vast majority of opioid-related deaths.
