Empowering Farmworkers Through Pesticide Safety Education

Over the past two years, the Community Health Worker Coalition for Migrants and Refugees (CHWCMR), in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Ecology, has proudly developed and delivered 30 pesticide safety workshops across Washington State.

These workshops provided essential training to over 300 participants, including farmworkers and previously trained CHWs. Topics included:

  • Safe pesticide handling and storage

  • Proper use of protective equipment

  • Understanding workers’ rights and EPA standards

Thanks to the leadership of Dr. Ileana Ponce-Gonzalez and support from our partners, we’ve built a foundation of knowledge and empowerment for our Latinx agricultural community. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and educate those who nourish our state.
