MPox Project

Monkeypox is a viral disease similar to smallpox. It causes fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a lesion-like rash. The lesions can appear on or near your genitals or anus and in other areas.

There are 676 cases of infected and 18 cases of hospitalized in Washington according to the Washington State Department of Health in Jan. 23. Most of these cases are in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties, where there is a high percentage of Latinx populations. Despite the high numbers of infections, our Latinx community has many doubts about the vaccine and its access to it, which is reflected in the low numbers of vaccinated where only 13.7% of a total of 19,141 vaccinated are Latinx. Additionally, the Latinx community faces barriers such as language, transportation, and vaccination costs, which generates fear in our population so that they can access the Mpox vaccine, putting your health at risk, if we take into account that many of them live with chronic diseases.

That is why CHWCMR is working on an intense education campaign for the Latinx community to imporve vaccination hesitation and awarness of the importance to get MPOX immunization.
